Reading tarot cards is becoming more and more popular and it's got nothing to do with predicting the future. Tarot can be a way to mindfully connect to the world, giving yourself time to step back and look at situations around you to see what is making you happy, anxious, sad, frightened.
In this guest blog, we are handing over to tarot lover Cassie Steele to tell us more about how tarot can help us to embrace our spirituality and how that in turn can help us to be happier...
How Can Tarot Enhance our Spirituality?
The question isn’t whether or not tarot can make us feel more spiritual, but how? Those who are unfamiliar with this ancient practice often mistakenly think that its focus is solely divination when in fact, one of the main reasons for the popularity of tarot readings, it their ability to increase our self-awareness, help us define our passions, and knock down the obstacles that are standing in the way of achieving them. In this post, we discuss the importance of spirituality and how we can achieve a greater connection to the life force that moves through all humanity, through the symbolic power of tarot.
New Findings on Spirituality
An analysis of 326 studies showed that 79% found a link between spirituality, and happiness connecting through practices such as yoga, Tai Chi, and mindfulness meditation, all of which are deeply spiritual and focus on either allowing the life force to move freely through our body and mind, or on strengthening the connection between the physical, mental, and spiritual.
Making the Most of a Tarot Reading
As a mindful, introspective pursuit, tarot can help us feel more spiritual, if we prepare ourselves to get the most out of the experience. When we relax through deep breathing exercises, ask the Universe important questions about our lives, remain strongly focused during a reading, and interpret our results with an open mind, we can make important discoveries that can help us weather life’s ups and downs with greater resilience.
How Can Tarot Help Eliminate Spiritual Blocks?
It is important to be fully mindful during your reading, taking the time to make the most of the messages symbolized both by the major and minor Arcanas. Try and be aware of the frequent appearance of certain cards that could be telling you something about your life.
If, for instance, you receive the Ten of Cups (reversed, which symbolizes a broken relationship), but you are not in a relationship or you cannot recall having fought with anyone close to you, close your eyes and think of all the important relationships in your life. Is there anyone that is undergoing a difficult time, who may need a bit more of your time? Has it been a little too long since you touched base with a friend; could there be something going on in their lives that you need to know?
If you receive the Ten of Wands, often interpreted as carrying too many burdens on one’s shoulders, ask yourself if you can identify ten (or less) obstacles that are standing in the way of your happiness and spiritual fulfillment. For instance, are you doing so much work that you haven’t been to yoga or meditation sessions in weeks? Are you spending considerable time with someone who is toxic or who makes you feel negative everytime you see them? Have you been eating unhealthily because you simply don’t have the time to prepare yourself healthy meals on a daily basis? It is evident that just one card can require minutes, even hours of analysis and interpretation, so make sure to remember or jot down the cards as they arise, and do additional work after your reading.
Tarot readings are one of many ways to learn more about yourself, your ideals, and goals, but they are also a mindful pursuit that keeps your mind ‘in the here and now’, as you concentrate on the deep symbolism that lies within each and every image. Try to employ your next tarot reading in a more profound way, so that every session makes you feel more connected to humanity, and more aware of the fact that you are so much more than a material being.
