Yoga for a Lack of Focus

It can happen anytime, anywhere, and often at the worst possible moment. Your mind wanders in every direction but where you need it to stay right now. As stated by the yogic sage Patanjali in the Yoga Sutras, “Yoga chitta vritti nirodha,” which translates as, “Yoga is the reduction of fluctuations of the mind.”

Wrangle that magnificent mind of yours by adopting Hakini Mudra, which generates power to rule over a restless mind. Before you begin, bring to mind the jewel thought below as an intention for your practice.

HAKINI MUDRA (POWER OR RULE MUDRA)

  • Bring the fingertips of the right hand to touch the fingertips of the left hand.

  • Your elbows are bent and your hands are in front of your ribcage or where it feels natural.

  • Use a slight pressure coming from your arms to press the fingertips together.

  • Use a sand timer, clock, or inner clock to hold the mudra while focusing on the breath for 3 minutes minimum.
